Something I Learned in 2020, Every Day for a Month
Sharing something great I learned in 2020 — every single day of January 2021.

I’ve been listening to all of us collectively gear up to give 2020 the biggest sendoff a year has gotten in a century or so. (🖕, Amirite?!) The coughing, at times choking planet, is ready for a break. We’re hoping that the flip of a page in a construct called a calendar will turn things around. I’m finding myself trading in resolutions for intentions, and reflecting on the gratitude welling up inside of me for all of the learning I have received throughout this strange, elastically-timed year.

To not reflect on a time because it was hard and painful is throwing a bushel of babies out with the bathwater. And, frankly, there was a lot of collective learning that we best not forget!
This is an invitation to join me in reflecting, for 31 days, on the good — the learning, the wisdom, the strength gained throughout 2020. I want to share the practices and literal recipes that brought me and my community health, resilience, and joy. Because joy can be in the sidecar with pain, loss, and struggle. It can be hard to hear over the wind, and in 2020’s case, the shitstorm.
This is an intention to shine out my gratitude for the joy and comfort I found, with a goal of facing forward with optimism, which is why I will start with the best thing I heard in 2020, this quote:
“…gratitude makes optimism sustainable.” -Michael J. Fox on Fresh Air with Terry Gross.
During the coming month, I will share reflections and ideas on gratitude practice, gratitude journaling, other writing practices, reading practices, great podcasts/shows/books, what I learned from doing a daily yoga practice, what recipes I learned and loved, cool tools I learned to use, and more. I’m hoping you’ll add to my posts with your own, and we will all move forward, together, always shining out optimism and gratitude, maybe even picking up some joy along the way!
