My cup is nearly empty. I did not have time to write anything purposefully today. But, this month, that is not what my posts are about. This month my posts are about gratitude. This morning we watched two massive cranes arrive, and two men worked all day until the giant fallen tree was mostly gone! I had time to spend with my son and my family, to make dinner, to have a “telehealth” therapy appointment, to feel bad about how little I have gotten done because my perimenopause cycle laid me out most of yesterday, to tweet about kids’ podcasts, to not answer emails that need answering, to realize I need to do my taxes, to get groceries, to have feelings about how now it is…
THE NIGHT BEFORE!
No less than three people I know said, “Today is the last day that there has never been a woman Vice President in our country.” My Stepmom and I reminisced about elections as I told her that my son’s First-grade schedule could go ahead and fuck off tomorrow, as we will be watching and celebrating, and remembering tomorrow. I thanked her for being an adult who told us what she believed politically when we were kids. It wasn’t the thing to talk to kids about politics too much when I was a little kid, but I remember forming opinions as early as the First grade. my Stepmom had a little white VW Beetle, and she had covered up a big dent with a not-so-big Mondale/Ferraro sticker.
We’re talking with our son about politics, and we’re trying to be as balanced as possible so that he will grow to draw his own conclusions, but it is unacceptable to us for him to draw conclusions that are racist, that other and dehumanize, and allow kids to be ripped from their parents’ arms and placed in cages. As I blogged before, if it requires dehumanization, then it’s evil. We want him to understand what good leadership looks like, that the best leaders are in service to those they lead, and that power is finite when you attempt to hold it over others. But if you give power to… Well, baby, that shit is infinite and where the magic happens! POWER TO THE PEOPLE!
May we all have settled bodies and increasing senses of peace and caring for each other as we move out of these dark times. There are sure to be more violent death throes from the white supremacist and misogynist terrorists that live in a state of constant, terrified shame. But there is good, and survivors are those of us that work together, that know we are all in this together and care for each other.
Fumigate the White House, break out the bubbly and vaccines, believe in Science and love!
