Of all of the things to be grateful for over my life, and especially the past year, the USPS, as well as the postal systems and interlibrary loan networks of the world, are in the top 5, easily. I’ve had a lifelong fascination with the mail, and it has continued to pour its magic into my life.
We saw the USPS come under fire on a whole new level in 2020 as the pandemic raged on and as those who would do evil sought to tamp down its magic for the purpose of voter suppression and disenfranchisement. One of the…

When you think of podcasts, you might see them as solely entertainment for your family — listening to them as part of your children’s bedtime rituals or when you are out-and-about in the car. Both are fantastic reasons to listen, but did you know that there are numerous podcasts worthy of being a part of your homeschooling day?
Podcasts give children a much-needed break from screen time to engage them in “active listening.” Research has shown that active listening through audio increases focus, concentration, and comprehension; broadens vocabulary, and builds critical thinking.

Although we think every month and every day is a great time to celebrate girls and womxn everywhere, the spotlight on this month as Women’s History Month in the United States is a great prompt to call out some fantastic kidcasts from women creators and shows about strong female characters as well as womxn & girls-centered episodes from our member shows.

As our organization continues to grow and advocate for high-quality content for kids and their families, we are thrilled to be adding new member shows that exemplify great education and entertainment.
Here’s a quick introduction to some of our newest Kids Listen member shows that you should get to know:
I have a confession to make. Ever since I wrote about schedules and daily planning, I have come to resent Ben Franklin and think his hallowed schedule completely obnoxious. In fact, I think journaling to-do lists made me sick this past week. Instead of feeling inspired by Benny’s morals-obsessed daily journaling, I started to think, “Oh go fuck yourself. Do I need to do good every goddamned day?” I consulted my Power Circle about to-do list illness, and I resentfully called him all kinds of unfair names.
For the record, I still do very much love my First grader’s schedule…
I wrote in late February of 2020 about doing a very self-educational month-long money detox month for March of last year. It felt fantastic to make a commitment. I really thought it out, got back in touch with the part of myself that needed a break from constant capitalism, and I got ready to get my spending under control. As a data nerd, I was also excited to see just how low I could go.
The March money detox kicked off with an awesome event — a naked lady party thrown by a friend. I had no idea how much…
Now, more than ever, I need the strength that comes from being still. COVID times are drawing out, and we are coming up on the one-year mark since the world changed forever. I am thinking about re-taking an MBSR (Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction) course via Zoom, soon. It’s hard to not want to revisit the best thing I ever did for myself.
“I see you! I see you there,”
was something my MBSR (Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction) teacher had passed on to us from her instructor when she became certified. Our teacher encouraged us, a rag-tag group of 7 total randos, to…
I’ve been padding around the house in the middle of the night as long as I can remember, and definitely as young as five.
I love the middle of the night. I love the crazed energy of a second wind — when everything is quiet. It feels OK to have heightened senses and chronic hypervigilance. I am alone, slipping in and out of silky shadows.
I hate waking early. Benjamin Franklin and all of the polymaths of all time can keep their early risings to themselves. …
